Hi, my name is Dan Avenell, and I'm an artist, illustrator and graphic designer based in London, UK.
This is my 'Biography' ie all the art and design I've done over the years, not a score-settling, misrepresentation of my personal life story. In CV style, I am listing my work in reverse chronological order. The further back I go, the less relaible the dates...
I usually create my art with pencil and ink, then scan it into Photoshop and finish digitally. I also work in traditional media such as acrylics, oils, and the silk-screen process.
I enjoy working on a wide range of different projects, and if I am not working for a client I am probably doing something for my own amusement - as such, the pieces on this site are a mixture of commissioned work and things I did for fun that I thought were worth putting on the site or selling as prints.
So, have a browse of my site and feel free to contact me with any questions, commissions, or Laser-Monkeys.

I just designed a website for the London-based US country/rock/soul singer Cheyne Pride - check it out by clicking on the image to the right.
If you're an Elvis fan - and who isn't? - take a look at some of the video clips of her (as 'Queen Creole') performing some of The King's best songs - though there's thankfully no white jumpsuit clichès in sight.
I don't do a lot of web-design, but I enjoyed putting this one together, and think it looks pretty classy.

I have completed illustrating the second episode of the web-comic spin-off of the hot new computer animated sci-fi epic Loner. You can read it via the menu button to your left
It can be found after the first episode, which focused on Loner's backstory. This time it the evil Sa'Car who features. These web-comic tales provide back-story to the various characters of the 'Lonerverse'- and now there are plans to have the web-comic printed at some point.

I enjoyed redesigning the UK comedy magazine The Fix, and handling its layout and design for the year of 2008.
You can pick up a free copy of The Fix at any UK Comedy Club. It's very funny.

2004
With Craig Tilford, design editor at The Face, I designed a range of advertising concepts for Courvoisier. The finished ad was used in magazines and on billboards worldwide. I never got any free booze though.
We recently collaborated again on ads for Guerlain's Insolence perfume and Kenneth Cole footwear. |

During the 90s my planned career as an artist/graphic designer was put on hold when I accidentally fell into the music business, becoming a successful club promoter and DJ. The maority of my art and graphic design in that period was involved in designing club flyers, very few of which still survive, but I will add at some point.
Ok, that's basically it. There were plenty of other works and commissions but a series of hard drive crashes has eliminated much evidence. So learn from my mistakes and back up everything... in triplicate! |
